President Joe Biden called a Fox News reporter a "stupid son of a bitch" after he asked him about inflation.
During a White House event on Biden administration efforts to combat inflation, a verbal slip took place. After Biden complained that all the press questions were about the military build-up around Ukraine, Doocy shouted, "Will you take questions about inflation?" Do you think inflation is a political liability?
Biden thought his microphone was turned off. More inflation.
He said: "What a stupid son of a bitch."
The co-host of "The Five" joked with his colleague that he thought the president's right after the exchange with Biden. You are stupid.
A smiling Doocy said, "Yeah nobody's fact-checked [Biden] yet and said it's not true."
On the Special Report, when Baier asked about the exchange with the president, Doocy replied, "He didn't want to take any questions off topic." He attended an event about inflation. I asked about inflation. Wait to see if the white house has to remove that from the transcript.
Baier asked what the other reporters had to say. Did you talk to them? I couldn't hear anything over the shouting of the wranglers, so they had to tell me he had said it. The clip will live on.
Biden apologized for the remark later in the day, according to Doocy. The White House did not reply to CNBC.
During press events, Biden is baited with shouted over other reporters and trying to catch the president off guard.
Biden has a long history of swearing on microphones, so the comments were not out of character.
In 2010, Biden was caught telling Obama that theAffordable Care Act was a big deal.
With inflation at levels not seen in decades, the White House has struggled with how to communicate with the public about the efforts it is making to bring prices down. In the short term, there is little that Biden or any president can do to reverse macroeconomic trends like increased consumer demand and supply chain snarls in Asia.
