At long last, Nvidia and AMD GPU street prices are beginning to drop

We are not out of the woods yet, but it looks like the prices of both Nvidia andAMD may finally be coming down. Tom's Hardware in the US and 3DCenter.org in Germany are both seeing a significant dip in the price of new graphics cards from both Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices.

Are you looking for an Nvidia RTX 3080? The manufacturer's suggested retail price was over two and a half times higher than the street price. In November, we reported on the hottest graphics cards, and Tom's Hardware shows that things got worse in December. The average price in January was just under $1,600.

The price of every other graphics card, including the RTX 3080, went down between 5 and 10 percent, with the exception of the RX 6900XT, which went up.

Tom's Hardware shows that the volume of sales went down on eBay, and some cards were barely trading to begin with. Some people are giving up and unwilling to pay the fees.

Maybe it has to do with the nosedive that cryptocurrencies has taken recently. It will be interesting to see if the recent slump drives down the prices of graphics cards since they won't be as valuable to miners now. When graphics cards can't be put to work, miners will sell a lot of them. The data is from last week, so it doesn't contain the full impact yet.

3DCenter.org shows that the dip is happening at German retailers as well as at the secondhand market.

It feels like a good sign, even if you will still pay more than double the price for an RTX 3060 Ti right now.

We haven't seen any signs that supply has caught up to demand, but we do know that supply will improve in the second half of the year.

The secondhand eBay prices of the PS5 and Xbox Series X are going down. The average price of Sony and Microsoft's flagship consoles has dropped from an average of $800 to an average of $700 over the past three months. If you are curious, here are the charts.
