Adama Traore: Tottenham Hotspur closing in on signing Wolverhampton Wanderers winger

The deal for Adama Traore is close to being completed.

Wolves are understood to value Traore at £25m, with Spurs having a bid of £15m rejected last week.

The expectation is that a comprise fee can be reached for the 25-year-old winger, who has been with Wolves since 2018, before Monday's transfer deadline.

Traore came on for the final 15 minutes of Saturday's win and saw his goal ruled out by the VAR.

At the end of the summer transfer window, Spurs were in talks to sign Traore. The change of head coach from Nuno Espirito Santo to Antonio Conte did not deter that interest.

Traore is out of contract in June of 2023 and a new deal has been on the table for 15 months with his current club keen to keep hold of him. Personal terms are not expected to be an issue if Wolves and Spurs agree on a fee.

Bruno Lage says that Adama Traore has not been affected by the talk of a move away from the club.

Along with pursuing Traore, Spurs boss Antonio Conte wants to strengthen his squad with the addition of a forward and aMidfielder before the January window closes.

The latter could come in the form of Angers forward Mohamed Ali-Cho, who is reported to have been offered to the premier league side.

The value of the 18-year-old, who moved to Angers 18 months ago, is up to $18.6m.

According to Sheth on The Transfer Show, Antonio Conte is looking to sell Tanguy, Dele, and Giovanni.

Ali-Cho has played five times for France U21s, and is attracting interest from a club in the Bundesliga.

Is Traore an upgrade for Spurs?

Analysis by Jack.

It's important to establish the role Adama Traore would play if he were to trade Wolves for Spurs. He's not going to replace Harry Kane or Heung-Min Son, Spurs' prolific and trusted attacking duo.

Traore could be brought in as a replacement for Steven Bergwijn, he could provide competition for Lucas Moura, and there is even talk that he could be brought to Spurs in a wing-back capacity.

The entertainment factor at the club would be upgraded if Traore moved to Spurs. Traore's dribble completion and dribble success rate are off the scale compared to other players, and he makes almost five times the number of crosses from open play per 90 minutes.

There are reservations over Traore's suitability in the end product area. In 18 appearances for Wolves this season, the Spaniard has yet to score or assist, which is half the rate of his previous top-flight career in England.

Traore's creativity may not be fully utilized at Wolves. Is it possible that it could be used in a strike force that features Kane and Son? Those are the questions that whet the appetite for Spurs fans after a so far barren January.
