Box Office: ‘Spider-Man’ Tops ‘Jurassic World’ And Nears $1.7 Billion

Tom Holland is in Spider-Man.

Sony.

Spider-Man: No Way Home earned a robust 14.125 million for a $721 million 38 day total, making it the highest grossing movie of all time. It was a mere 28% drop for the weekend, giving it a better sixth-weekend hold than any of the other big opening weekends in recent memory.

It has the 17th-biggest weekend-six gross of all time, ahead of The Phantom Menace and The Force Awakens. Spider-Man: No Way Home is in the unadjusted top ten for sixth weekend grosses if you remove the leggy flicks that platformed.

The Tom Holland/Zendaya/Benedict Cumberbatch MCU flick is benefiting from a lack of demographic competition and a lack of Oscar season breakouts compared to other films. With Morbius moving from January 28 to April 1, Spider-Man 3 version 2.0 has another week of open skies before Jackass Forever and Moonfall hit theaters.

If it ends up with a Best Picture nomination, it should end its domestic run with over/under $765 million domestic, with an obvious potential for an upward trajectory if A) it ends up with a Best Picture nomination and/or B) the February releases. The Battle at Lake Changjin is the sixth-biggest single-territory grosser of all time, with a domestic gross of 858 million dollars.

In terms of inflation-adjusted domestic earnings, it is now in the top 30. Grease will be the 13th-biggest post-Star Wars release, accounting for rereleases. It becomes the 19th-biggest domestic tickets-sold release ever when rereleases are thrown out.

It is the tenth-biggest IMAX global total of all time, with $105 million. It has that going for it as well. The film has earned a staggering $1.69 billion worldwide, passing The Lion King and Jurassic World as the third highest grossing film of all time. It is currently sixth in the list, behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Titanic, and Avengers: Endgame.

It has become the biggest domestic/overseas/global earner since the movie of the same name in 2019. That is without a penny from China. If the film were playing in China with pre-covid circumstances, would we be talking about a $2 billion finish? Far from Home earned $199 million in the summer of 2019. Sony doesn't need any help with grosses like this. I think they will live with a small amount of money.
