The sixth season of 'Billions' is in this post.
TV shows featuring its products can cause a lot of publicity. According to The New York Times, the premiere episode of Billions season six includes a scene that is similar to the Sex and the City follow-up And Just Like That.
The scene depicts a man named Mike "Wags" Wagner having a heart attack while riding his spin bike. In contrast to the And Just Like That scene, which is where he is, Wagner is still alive, telling staff that he's "not going out" like that character. Billions' executive producers told The Times that the team overdubbed the reference to the other show in postproduction to reflect "what Wags would say." The use of the brand for Billions was not given the green light by Peloton. The show highlighted the "strong benefits" of a cardio workout, and it celebrated parts of the episode. When the scene caused a panic, Peloton faulted the character's lifestyle and suggested the bike be delayed. It created a promo to defend its products, but pulled it after actor Chris Noth was accused of sexual assault.
The Billions scene isn't the biggest PR crisis. The company's stock price plummeted after it said it halted production due to slowing sales. It shows the odd position of Peloton. The company is no longer revered by shoppers or the entertainment business because of its fitness gear.
