There is a story.

According to the Washington Post, the traditional idea of going to the office five days a week or working 9 to 5 may be dying. Bolt, a San Francisco-based start-up, introduced a four-day workweek for its employees. The office of the workplace communications platform is being turned into a gathering place for meetings and projects. Amazon andSalesforce are allowing their employees to decide when and where they should work based on the projects at hand.

The omicron variant and the "Great Resignation" have made it more difficult for employers to retain talent. During the third week of January, US office vacancies dipped to about 28 percent, compared to 40 percent in November, according to building security company Kastle Systems. Some employers see this as an opportunity to rethink the way they work, opting for even more flexible and creative arrangements that are more likely to lure and retain workers.

After piloting the policy last year, 92 percent of managers and 94 percent of employees wanted to keep working. They reported improved work-life balance. Christie said that the start-up had been flooded with resumes and emails from people interested in working for the company. Christie said that people want to be able to do work in a way that fits them. "That's going to be the place where talent is attracted."

The desire for a four-day workweek is one of the things the union workers agree on. "If I said I didn't listen to recruiters from places that already implemented a four-day workweek, I would be lying," said Dannel Jurado, a member of the Office and Professional Employees International Union.
