Christian Eriksen: Brentford close to finalising six-month deal for midfielder

The six-month contract with Christian Eriksen is close to being finalized.

Due diligence is being done on his fitness to play. He will need a permit to work.

The medical process will be more complicated than a typical new signing since he suffered a cardiac arrest just seven months ago and has an ICD fitted to his heart.

The sports cardiologist assigned to the club would need to sign off on Eriksen before he could play in the league.

The signing club's cardiovascular assessment would be reviewed by the FA before it gave the go-ahead.

The FA would expect the club-appointed cardiologist to be a member of the Cardiac Consensus Panel, chaired by the former doctor of Eriksen.

He is currently a free agent and is not expected to be signed by the January 31 deadline.

The Good Morning Transfers team spoke to the doctors in the league to find out what steps would have to be taken in order for him to return.

His contract with Inter Milan was terminated due to it being illegal to play professional sport in Italy with an ICD fitted to the heart.

In England athletes are given the freedom to decide whether or not to continue playing on the balance of risk.

If he plays with an ICD, he will be the first player in the premier league to play with one.

While looking for a new club, he has been training in southern Switzerland, but stepped up his preparations for a return this past week by training with the Dutch club.
