UFC 270 live results and analysis: Francis Ngannou vs. Ciryl Gane

Play.

The fans are in for an epic first round.

In an epic round of fighting, Matt was able to pull off the victory over Genaro. (0:51)

Two people are former sparring partners. That might be the only thing they agree on.

At a news conference Thursday, Ngannou and Gane argued if they were ever teammates. They couldn't agree if Ngannou knocked out Gane with a head kick or if he just hurt him. Ngannou's falling-out with his former coach and the current coach at MMA Factory in Paris have certainly hurt the relationship.

That will not matter Saturday night. The main event of UFC 270 at the Honda Center will feature a fight between Ngannou and Gane for the UFC title. The barbs will be decided in the ring. Ngannou is tied for fourth on the pound-for-pound top MMA fighters list. Ngannou and Gane are the top ranked at their weight class.

There are other stories going on here. Ngannou would become a restricted free agent if he lost. At some point, he plans on entering the boxing world. Even if Ngannou wins the title, he won't compete again under his current contract.

At UFC 265 in August, Gane won the interim title after stopping Lewis in the third round. The French fighter has a perfect record in the UFC.

He is a former Muay Thai star and MMA champ. He believes that this fight will be about his technique against Ngannou's strength and power.

Brandon Moreno defends his UFC flyweight title against Deiveson Figueiredo in a trilogy bout. At UFC 263 in June, the UFC's first Mexican-born champion, Moreno, beat Figueiredo by third-round submission to win the title. The two fought to a draw in their first meeting. On the pound-for-pound list, he is ranked No. 8. He is the top ranked flyweight.

The men's flyweight championship is being fought by Brandon Moreno and Deiveson Figueiredo.

The second round was in progress.

Very close to start. One of Figueiredo's leg kicks took Moreno off his feet. He had a left hand. It was nice to get out of bad positions. Figueiredo was 10-9.

The results are here.

Welterweight:Michel Pereira (27-11, 2 NC; 5-2, 1 NC UFC) def. Fialho won the fight by unanimous decision.

Since his loss to Diego Sanchez,Michel has won four straight fights.

He used to be a wild man in his early UFC fights. He's developed a more disciplined approach, but as Saturday's fight against Fialho wore on, he unleashed his full arsenal of creative attacks, and that propelled him to his fourth straight victory.

At the start of the fight, he was somewhat conservative, and he was walked down for most of the first round. After slowing Fialho's advances, he let go with several front kicks to the body, and then he started going to the spinning punches and flying knees he is known for. He was in control of the second round and got the better of a close third.

The judges scored the fight 29-28 in favor of the Brazilian who had a significant edge in strikes. The man landed on the body 44 times.

Fialho is from Portugal and fights out of Florida. He saw his four-fight winning streak end in his UFC debut.

The men's bantamweight was won by Said Nurmagomedov by first-round submission.

In his first fight since October 2020, Said Nurmagomedov earned his second straight first-round finish victory.

It's not a good idea to fight with a fighter with a last name that's similar to your own.

Stamann tried to take Nurmagomedov down with a body lock. Stamann had no choice but to tap out after just 47 seconds of the first round. It was the biggest win of Nurmagomedov's career, and the third-fastest submission in UFC history.

"I am preparing for all three rounds, but this was my favorite choke," he said.

In the UFC, the 29-year-old has won two in a row and four of five. He looks like someone to watch. Mark Henry is the coach of the Dagestan native who is not related to the legendary Khabib. Stamann, a native of Michigan, has lost three fights in a row.

Thelterweight: MichaelMorales (13-0, 1-0 UFC) def. Giles won the fight by first-round TKO.

Michael Morales won his UFC debut.

He could become a problem for this division for a long time. The young prospect showed great confidence in his UFC debut. When an opportunity presented itself to finish the fight, Morales didn't miss.

The contest was stopped at the 4:06 mark. Giles was hurt by a counter uppercut from Morales. Giles swung back defensively to try and stop Morales. Giles was dropped by a follow-up shot. The fight was over when Giles turtled.

What a great way to start a ppv.

11 of his 13 professional wins have been finished by Morales. Giles had eight fights of UFC experience and was not an easy draw for a UFC debut.

Victor Henry (22-5, 1-0 UFC) def. Raoni Barcelos won by unanimous decision.

Raoni Barcelos was defeated by Victor Henry. Barcelos was the favorite to win the fight.

Barcelos was dangerous from the start. Henry kept coming forward, and his relentlessness wore down Barcelos to the point where he was powerless. Henry, who was a 4-to-1 favorite, earned 30-27 scores from all three judges to win his UFC debut, his 10th victory in his last 11 fights.

Since 2007, no debuting bantamweight has won at longer odds than the one from Los Angeles. The fighters combined for more significant strikes than any other 135-pound bout in the UFC. Henry's 181 was the third most landed by a bantamweight and the first by a UFC fighter.

Barcelos lost his second fight in a row after a nine-fight winning streak.

Jack Della Maddalena def. Pete Rodriguez won by first-round TKO.

Play.

Jack Della Maddalena defeated Pete Rodriguez in his UFC debut with a nice left hook.

Della Maddalena has a chance to be a big star according to those who know about Australian MMA. Saturday evening was clear to see why.

In his UFC debut, Della Maddalena used his slick boxing to earn a knockout win at 2:59 of the first round over Rodriguez. A step-back straight left hand dropped Rodriguez after Della Maddalena bloodied his nose. Frank Trigg stopped the fight without Della Maddalena needing to land another shot.

"I was waiting for the nerves to calm and they never came," Della Maddalena said. "Same as usual."

Della Maddalena used his southpaw boxing skills to his advantage, working a nice jab and landing hard right hooks and straight lefts. Rodriguez's nose was bloodied by the jab. A hard left and a right hook were landed by Della Maddalena.

He beat him up quickly.

Since his first two pro bouts, Della Maddalena has won 11 in a row. The Australian earned his way into the UFC through Dana White's Contender Series. He beat Ange loosa in September.

Rodriguez had four knockouts in four career fights.

Tony Gravely won by unanimous decision against Saimon Oliveira in the men's bantamweight division.

He racked up 11 total takedowns and 11:28 worth of control time as he turned Saturday's bantamweight bout into a wrestling match. The judges awarded the 30-year-old's efforts with unanimous scores.

The man on the feet was clearly more dangerous than the man on the ground. He repeatedly attacked Gravely with the guillotine choke, but could never quite secure it.

The majority of the fight was spent on top or on the fence. The result was still what Gravely was looking for. He was knocked out in the second round by Maness. The opponent was knocked to the ground by the attack of the 31 year old fighter from Huntington, New York. He was credited with four knockdowns. The UFC record for a fight ending in the first round is four knockdowns.

Holy moly! That fight was crazy!

Unable to turn out the lights on his opponent, Frevola finally got a dominant position on top of him, rendered him defenseless on his stomach and dropped punch after punch until referee Mike Beltran jumped in to end it at 3:15. The win halted the two-fight skid and gave him his first finish in over a year.

The first defeat of his career came in his UFC debut.

One of the better comebacks you'll ever see in the UFC is byVanessa Demopoulos against Silvana Gomez Juarez.

Demopoulos made a very, very early bid for an MMA comeback.

Demopoulos locked in an armbar submission finish at 2:25 of the first round after Gomez Juarez dropped her hard with a right hand.

Demopoulos jumped into Rogan's arms after her interview.

Demopoulos said that he woke up on the ground with a cracked right hand.

Demopoulos realized she had an underhook from the bottom and used it to leverage herself into an armbar. Demopoulos swept into top position, still with the armbar intact, and finished the fight beautifully.

Demopoulos said he loves jiu-jitsu. I could do jiu-jitsu all day long.

It's crazy! This sport is the best because of that. Never out of it.

Demopoulos dropped her UFC debut against Aldrich. The Ohio native, who fights out of Fight Ready in Arizona, earned her second win in her last five fights.

Gomez Juarez is an Argentine who is fighting in the UFC.

The women's flyweight is Jasmine Jasudavicius. Kay Hansen won the UFC fight by unanimous decision.

The opening bout of UFC 270 was won by Jasmine Jasudavicius.

The fight was a step up for both women. Jasudavicius was in the UFC. After making her first two UFC appearances at strawweight, Hansen was competing at 125 pounds for the first time.

There was something else to overcome by Hansen. She was fighting for the first time in over a year.

Jasudavicius, from Ontario, Canada, was the sharper fighter, fending off four Hansen takedown attempts in the first round. She earned one of her own, then kept control of the rest of the way. One judge scored all three rounds for Jasudavicius, while the other two did not. Jasudavicius has won in a row three times.

After a three-fight winning streak, Hansen lost her second fight in a row.

Still to come.

Francis Ngannou (c) is the UFC's undisputed champ.

Defending champion; interim champion.
