Up to 6 inches of snow has accumulated in southern Virginia and northern North Carolina, according to the National Weather Service.
In beach towns that are not accustomed to such weather, an ice storm left up to a quarter of an inch of ice.
According to Carl Morgan, a meteorologist with the NWS, there was a glaze reported as far south as Charleston.
The NWS said it wasn't expecting any more snow after 1 p.m. as the storm headed offshore toward the Atlantic.

A Delta flight from Washington, D.C., slid off of the runway at Raleigh-Durham International Airport on Friday night. The plane was dragged out of the mud over 12 hours. The 13 people on the plane were all unharmed, Delta said in a statement.

This is the second winter storm that has brought snow and ice to the South in less than a week. The governors of Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina declared states of emergencies due to the weather for the second time in a week. Hundreds of flights were canceled at major American and Delta hubs in Charlotte and Atlanta on Sunday due to last week's winter weather.
What to watch for.
The NWS warned of dangerous black ice in central and southeastern Virginia and throughout the Carolinas on Saturday, with temperatures expected to drop into the teens and low 20s. Drivers were urged to use caution if travel was necessary and to prepare for rapidly changing road conditions.
