Michigan superintendent denies rumor that litter boxes were put in bathroom for students who identified as furries

There were rumors that schools had put litter boxes in the bathroom for students who identified as furries.

Sharrow wrote in a post to Facebook that he was sending the communication. A false message that has resurfaced this week and is gaining traction in the social media realm may confuse our stakeholders.

Furries are people who are interested in animals. Some people who identify as furries wear animal costumes.
Sharrow said the rumor was brought up by a parent at a school board meeting.

At a December 20 meeting of the Midland Public Schools board, a parent said she was "disturbed" after she heard a litter box had been added for use in at least one all-gender restroom in one of the district's schools.
I was shocked yesterday when I heard something. She said in the video that she was equally stunned.

Insider previously reported that school board meetings in the US have become the latest battleground for hot-topic social and political issues.

The agenda that is being pushed through our schools is not good for our community. "So let's talk about furries, I'm going to do more investigation," the woman said.
Sharrow dismissed the claim on Thursday, despite no board members responding to it at the December 20 meeting.
He wrote that he wanted to be clear in his communication. There is no truth to this false statement. There have never been litter boxes in the schools.
The co-chair of the Michigan GOP spread the rumor on Facebook.
Kids who identify as furries get a litter box in the school bathroom. Maddock wrote that parent heroes will take back the schools.

Sharrow told parents to send him a message if they ever had a question about any "wild accusations that don't sound like something" the district would do.
