Deebo Samuel established himself as one of the NFL's most unique offensive players in his second season in the league, and he is looking to cash in this winter.
According to Ian Rapoport, the San Francisco 49ers made Samuel a "top contractual priority" in the off-season.
Samuel is a second-round pick in the draft and has one more year on his contract. The base salary for the 26 year old is set to be $1.99 million.
Samuel was one of the go-to options when he was a rookies. He helped the 49ers reach the Super Bowl by finishing second on the team in targets, catches, and receiving yards.
The 49ers had a rough season in 2020 due to injuries. Samuel was limited to seven games because of his injuries.
Samuel's full potential was unlocked by a healthy 2021. He led the NFL with 18.2 yards per reception, was third in yards from scrimmage, fifth in receiving yards and tied for seventh in total touchdown.
In his last nine games, Samuel has racked up over 400 rushing yards and eight touchdown on 63 carries.
The first 49ers wide receiver to be named to the All-Pro first team since 2001 was a South Carolina graduate.
Samuel's performance helped the 49ers reach the playoffs. They will play the Green Bay Packers on Saturday night at Lambeau Field with a spot in the NFC Championship Game on the line.
