NASA satellite captures a dazzling, important crater on Mars

There is a camera on Mars.

It can spot things as small as a kitchen table on Mars. The experiment is called HIRISE. The view of a Martian crater was captured recently.

The image was taken in late 2021 and shows a crater filled with dunes. Mars can be as far away as 140 million miles from Earth, but Earth-like geologic processes continue there.

An important purpose for planetary scientists is served by the crater, which is an impressive feature in the Martian desert. It shows the location of zero longitude on Mars, which separates the western and eastern hemispheres.

The point is marked by the Royal Observatory in the UK. There is evidence of past asteroid impacts on Mars.
