Caoimhin Kelleher: Liverpool keeper to start Carabao Cup final v Chelsea

A clean sheet was kept by Caoimhin Kelleher as the Reds beat the Gunners to reach the final.

The Carabao Cup final will be played on February 27th at Wembley.

When Alisson returned following Covid-19, he was replaced by Kelleher, who has started every game in the competition.

The Republic of Ireland international was described as a top-class keeper.

"Caoimhin will play if he's ready," said Klopp.

We consider him to be an outstanding goalie. We want to keep him here because he is not a good goalie.

To keep him here, you need to make sure of a few things. You need to talk about the games he will get before the season starts.

He is the number two behind Alisson.

He has played in four of the Reds' five Carabao Cup games this season, with his only three goals conceded coming in the dramatic quarter-final victory overLeicester City on penalties, when he saved two spot-kicks.

In the quarter-finals, Kelleher saved two spot-kicks.

Alisson was back in the team for the second leg of the semi-finals after returning to action following a positive Covid-19 test, however the Irishman was kept out by a clean sheet as the Reds advanced to the final.

My idea is to play him at Wembley. I don't see why we shouldn't do that. "Chaimhin deserves that," said Klopp.

He has shown that he is deserving of the trust and faith we have in him.

I had to explain to him why he wasn't playing.

I usually don't do that, but it was his competition and I thought Ali needed the game because he was lacking rhythm after Covid.

I liked that Caoimhin wasn't like, 'Oh yes, I understand'. He was confused. He matures in all departments and that is good. That is the goalie we want.
