Bob Jordan said during a virtual town hall meeting on Wednesday that Southwest Airlines would consider assigning seating for passengers.
According to Travel Weekly, Jordan said that assigned seating is not on the airline's immediate docket and there are no plans in place, but it could be possible in the future to help aircraft turn times and operations.

The CEO thinks the seating change could help business travelers as the industry continues to bounce back from the impact of the coronaviruses.
Is it possible that one day we need to ask the assigned-seating question again? During the meeting, Jordan said that they may have to do that. We are committed to looking at our product and making sure it's relevant.
Southwest uses an open seating program that distinguishes it from other carriers. He said the policy of free checked bags won't change even though he could see changes to the way passengers choose their seat.
