Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says 'pet peeve' is fixing problems after season is over

The Cowboys wouldn't win a playoff game.

Stephen A. Smith was in a debate about the failures of the Lakers and the Cowboys. The song is called "2:20."

Jerry Jones was asked if he had made a decision on Mike McCarthy's future as the Dallas Cowboys head coach.

"I'm not going to get into any conversations that I've had with anyone related to the staff," Jones said. There's nothing compelling me about it. I want to have everyone under contract. That's where we are.

McCarthy said he had positive conversations with Jones and was going through the evaluation process after the team's disappointing wild-card loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Stephen Jones, the Cowboys executive vice president, said he was very confident that McCarthy would return for a third season.

During Friday's interview, Jerry Jones expressed his displeasure with how the season ended.

Jones said that changing out men at any level would improve the situation.

He said he was very, very frustrated and upset. We have used up some very talented players over the last few years.

McCarthy said that the biggest issue the Cowboys have to clear up is penalties. The team was flagged 14 times for 89 yards against San Francisco in the regular season.

One of the pet peeves I have is that I don't like this and we have to work on it in the off-season. We have to work on this. Jones didn't specify McCarthy's evaluation of the team's penalty problem. After the first game or after the sixth game, I want those things addressed. I don't want to wait until the season is over to address these things.

All of that is part of what I do. I have to make the ultimate decision on these coaches and anywhere around here, so the guy that you're the toughest on should be the one in the mirror. I get to operate at that guy's timetable because he has the ultimate responsibility.

Dan and Kellen had interviews with multiple teams regarding head-coaching vacancies.

The team and their functions helped us win a Super Bowl. Jones said that he's very cautious about throwing all of that down the drain because they didn't win a step in the playoffs to get to the Super Bowl. To answer your question, I take into account how well we did this year in the regular season and what the record meant. I will. I think we did a good job of getting to the playoffs.

I can't get over what we did in the playoffs.
