Apple requires customers taking advantage of educational discounts in the United States to verify their status as a teacher, student, or school staff member through UNiDAYS.
Apple had never asked customers to go through a verification process in the US before, and now just three days after verification was added, Apple has removed it.
Apple's education website in the U.S. now offers discounted iPads, Macs, and other products, and Apple is not asking for proof that a customer is a student or teacher.
The UNiDAYS site was broken for staff member verification, as it was asking customers to upload a student ID with an expired date, after the requirement was rolled out. Apple has nixed the requirement because staff members were prevented from getting discounted products.
There is no requirement to make a discounted purchase if Apple does not implement an institution verification process again.
UNiDAYS verification has been required by Apple in the United Kingdom for a long time, so it would not be much of a surprise to see it added in the United States at some point in the future.
