Cowboys' Jerry Jones Won't Endorse Mike McCarthy as HC; Has a Lot to Think About

Jerry Jones didn't say that Mike McCarthy will be the Cowboys head coach in 2022.

Jones refused to endorse McCarthy as the team's head coach and said he would make a change if he felt it would make a difference.

Jones said he is upset with how the Cowboys' season ended and that he has a lot to think about about McCarthy and the coaching staff.

The Cowboys went 12-5 but were eliminated in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs by the San Francisco 49ers.

McCarthy was hired by Dallas prior to the 2020 season. While the Cowboys went 6-10 that year, he got a pass because of the fact that quarterback Dak Prescott missed most of the season because of injury.

The Cowboys had an impressive array of talent, including running back Tony Pollard, wide receiver Amari Cooper, and tight end Dalton Shultz.

McCarthy had a lot of talent on the defense, such as first-team All-Pros defensive back Trevon Diggs and second-team LB Micah Parsons.

The Cowboys had one of the most talented teams in football this season. They didn't prove they belong in the upper tier.

During the regular season, they only beat the Philadelphia Eagles twice and the New England Patriots, and they sleptwalked through most of their playoff loss to the Niners.

The Cowboys need immediate results given that they haven't made it to the playoffs since 1995 and McCarthy is an accomplished coach who won a Super Bowl and reached the playoffs nine times during his 13 years with the Green Bay Packers.

McCarthy's late-game decision-making against the 49ers may be to blame if the Cowboys fire him.

The Cowboys had a chance to drive for the winning score in the waning seconds, but they called a quarterback draw for Prescott even though they had no timeouts remaining.

The Cowboys ran out of time before they could spike the ball.

Had Dallas been able to clock the ball, it could have taken a final shot at the end zone from San Francisco's 24 yard line, potentially winning the game and changing the narrative surrounding McCarthy.

Jones has to consider the fact that Kellen Moore and Dan Quinn are receiving head coaching interest from other teams. Jones can't wait to part ways with McCarthy if he wants to consider in-house options to replace him.
