Peloton will reportedly halt making... basically everything

The gold rush days seem to have ended for Peloton.

The fitness upstart is associated with COVID more than any other company. As people began working from home and the gyms closed, Peloton became the fitness item to have. The company's bikes and treadmills provide a great workout at home alone, while still trying to capture the energy of a live class.

At the peak of the Pandemic, wait times for Peloton were insane and customers developed loving relationships with instructors.

According to reports, Peloton has stopped making all of its major products. CNBC reported this week that the company planned to stop production of its bike product in February and March. It should be added to the list. The new bike is not being produced through June. CNBC reported that it won't make any Tread+ machines through the end of the year because of a six-week halt in production of its Tread.

The company's stock plummeted on Thursday after CNBC reported that it had stopped production of its fitness machines. The company's CEO didn't rule out layoffs as the Peloton's troubles continued.

The company's cheapest bike costs some 1,500 and that's not including the $39 per month membership that gives you access to its classes.

Even though it was a fitness company, people seemed to have used it as a barometer of the epidemic. In the last year, the views on COVID have changed and the shares of Peloton have plummeted.

Like everyone else, Peloton will settle into a routine. Nothing is ever the future of anything for very long. It was a beloved, relatively niche product. The spike in growth may be over for now, but it could still be a beloved product with a much wider audience in the future.
