The New York Giants have a new general manager. Dave Gettleman retired last week after a four-year stint that produced a 19-46 record.

The Giants have had five general managers in the past 41 years. His first order of business will be to find a new head coach. The third New York coach to be fired after two seasons or less was Joe Judge.

Sources told Adam that the Giants are going to ask for permission to speak with Brian Flores.

According to a source, Flores' first choice of jobs would be the Giants. The Giants gig would be a return to Brooklyn for Flores. He's interviewing with Houston and Chicago.

According to sources, the Giants were expected to speak with Dallas Cowboys and Buffalo Bills offensive and defensive coordinators.

The New York Jets are tied for the worst record in the past five seasons with a 22-59 mark, and Schoen has to fix that. League sources say that the Giants painted the impression that the next GM will have carte blanche to change the structure of the organization as needed.

The Kansas City Chiefs executive director of player personnel Ryan Poles, the San Francisco 49ers assistant general manager Adam Peters and the San Francisco 49ers director of player personnel Steve Schoen were all considered for the job.

Brandon Beane has worked closely with Schoen to build Buffalo into a powerhouse. The Bills won their second consecutive title this season and will play the Chiefs on Sunday in the first round of the playoffs.

The group that selected Josh Allen with the seventh overall pick in the NFL draft was led by a former quarterback at DePauw University. Saquon Barkley was the second overall pick by the Giants. Buffalo has recorded double-digit wins in each of the past three seasons.

In 2000 he began his career as an intern in the Carolina Panther's ticket department. He worked his way up the ladder, spending time with the Dolphins, Bills and the Carolinas. He was promoted to director of player personnel with the Dolphins under Bill Parcells, and then to director of player personnel with the Bills under Billy Beane.

Co-workers describe Schoen as someone who "never stops working", as he has worked extensively with the football operations. He was involved in the search for a general manager for the Carolinas.
