The New York Giants have a new general manager.

The Giants will hire the Buffalo Bills assistant general manager.

When Dave Gettleman announced his retirement, the Giants' GM position became open. The team only managed a 19-46 record in the four seasons that he was in the role.

The big question for New York this off-season was solved by Gettleman's decision. After some uncertainty, they moved on from Joe Judge.

The Giants need to be better at talent evaluation and drafting than Gettleman is. Poor drafting is one of the main reasons they haven't made the playoffs in years.

Kadarius Toney showed promise as a freshman, but his value was limited by poor quarterback play. Daniel Jones has yet to justify his status as the No. 6 overall pick. Saquon Barkley had 856 yards from scrimmage in 13 games this season after returning from a tornACL suffered in Week 2 of the 2020 campaign.

The Giants had a bad salary-cap situation because of the contracts Gettleman handed out in free agency. They are over the cap by $367,578. James Bradberry has a cap hit of at least $12.2 million next season.

If the Giants want to fix their lack of success in the draft, they should look to Schoen.

He has been an assistant general manager with the Bills for the past five seasons and has been part of the team that has made it to the playoffs in each of the past two seasons.

This is the first move in a long time that should make Giants fans happy as long as Schoen is given time to put his stamp on this roster.
