A form of cancer called diffuse large B-cell lymphoma has claimed the life of Louie Anderson, the stand-up comedian and game show host. He was old.

Anderson made his network debut as a stand up comedian on NBC's The Tonight Show in November 1984. He was cast in the pilot episode of ABC sitcom Perfect Strangers with Bronson Pinchot. He was replaced by Mark-Linn Baker when the show was picked up.

In the 1980s, Anderson appeared in guest spots on shows like Better Times and Remington Steele. He played a small role in both Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Cloak & Dagger before getting a bigger role in Coming to America and The Wrong Guys.

Anderson was featured in his first comedy special. Anderson created and produced a Saturday-morning animated comedy for Fox in 1995 called Life With Louie, while he was busy with stand-up and more guest appearances. Anderson's childhood with 10 siblings, a gentle mother and a loud, war-crazed father, as well as how he was picked on for his weight, was detailed in the film.

Life With Louie won two Daytime Emmy Awards.

The Louie Show was Anderson's first regular series for CBS. It was canceled after six episodes.

He hosted Family Feud from 2002 to 1999 before being replaced by Richard Karn.

He was nominated for an award for his role in Baskets, which won the award for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series.

"My goal is that when you watch me, you might say, 'That's Louie Anderson,' but within a few minutes I completely disappear and Christine completely emerges," he said in an interview.
