Lingard was rejuvenated when he joined West Ham for the second half of the 2020/21 season. If we look at Lingard's output with the Hammers, we can see how influential a signing he could be.
The 29-year-old played in 16 of West Ham's final 18 games of last season and registered nine goals and four assists which helped deliver nine victories for the Hammers.
The fact that Lingard's goals alone earned West Ham 10 points meant that they would have finished sixth instead of 12th.
Had it not been for Lingard's output, West Ham would have been a distant dream this season. A similar contribution could be the difference between staying in the league and going down.
Lingard could leave rivals behind.
If Lingard is going to be sold, it is a big deal for the club.
Despite their continued efforts, they have been able to reach an agreement with Manchester United, who are believed to favour a permanent transfer over a loan deal.
Lingard's arrival would upgrade the attacking options that the club have at their disposal.
Despite making an impact at St. James' Park, Joe Willock registered fewer goals, fewer assists, fewer wins and his goal gained less points than Lingard did during the same period at West Ham.
There are 21 games left this season. Chris Wood was the most productive forward in the same period last year, but he moved to the other side of the country, which weakened their chances of staying in the league.
Troy Deeney, who is no longer at Vicarage Road, and Teemu Pukki, who is no longer at Canaries, were both top of their respective attacking charts in the previous season, but Lingard beat them.
It goes without saying how talented Lingard is. He could be a great acquisition for the club if they can get a deal done and harness his potential. With output as potent as this, he may not be the only one chasing his signature.
If Lingard stayed, Rangnick wouldn't be upset.

If Lingard stayed at the club in the January transfer window, he would not be unhappy, says the Manchester United interim manager.
It is the same for Jesse and a few other players. He's a really good player, I can see that in every training session. I'm not the one who is dealing with the interest that other clubs have in him.
What does the player want? What other positions does he have? Does he see a chance to play more? I can't answer those questions for him or another player. The players and agents have to do this.
He's a very good player, a technical play, and he can play in many of the premier league clubs on a regular basis, that's what I can say. It's not easy at Manchester United because we have other players who play in that position and we can't change from one game to the other in five.
I know that his contract is about to end in the summer, but what does he want to do? I think it's appropriate to speak and think about other options if he wants more game time from now on.
I wouldn't be upset if he stayed for the rest of the season because I know he can play even if we need to play him from the start. I know what level he will give me and that's how I would describe the situation.

There is talk that United don't want Lingard going to West Ham or Spurs because they don't want to strengthen one of their rivals. They're worried he'll do what he did at West Ham.
Why don't they give him a chance if they think there's a threat? They're worried that he's a good player and that he's going to help Spurs finish in the top four. Why not give him a chance?
I think it's a no-brainer for them. For a fee of 2m and a weekly wage of 80,000, United will pay 100 per cent of the player's wages, which will keep them up.
We all know what he does for England when he gets a chance. You're guaranteed to score goals with Lingard. I'm confused that he's not even getting a chance at United because I would be trying everything to get him.
