Rock Legend Meat Loaf Dies at 74

Meat Loaf died at the age of 74, according to a statement on his Facebook page. There was no official cause of death, but reports indicate that he was seriously ill.

"Our hearts are broken to announce that the incomparable Meat Loaf passed away tonight with his wife Deborah by his side," the statement read. The daughters and friends have been with him for the last 24 hours.

Aday formed his first band, Meat Loaf, after his football coach nicknamed him because of his weight. He was the opening act for Van Morrison's band Them and Question Mark and the Mysterians.

The band had several different lead guitarists and had different names. Once Upon a Time was his first single.

Bat Out of Hell in 1977 and the follow-up Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell in 1993 produced numerous hit singles, including Paradise by the Dashboard Light, Two Out of Three Ain't Bad and I'd Do Anything for Love. Meat Loaf's Bat Out Of Hell is the biggest selling album in the UK ever.

The Bat Out of Hell Tour was performed by Meat Loaf and Karla DeVito.

He sold more than 100 million albums, including Welcome to the Neighborhood, which went Platinum.

The song I'd Do Anything for Love was nominated for a grammy.

He was in the Los Angeles production of Hair. He played the parts of Eddie and Dr. Everett Scott in the original L.A. Roxy cast of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Meat Loaf was a guest star in a number of television shows, including Lightning Force, Tales From the Crypt, Nash Bridges, Monk, and House. Blacktop and Citizen Jane were his TV movie roles. He has a regular part in Ghost Wars on the Syfy network.

Fight Club, which starred Brad Pitt and Laura Dern, was one of the films Meat Loaf appeared in.

He was a contestant on Donald Trump's Celebrity Apprentice.
