The CIA's announcement that a foreign nation isn't likely to be responsible for most cases of Havana syndrome came to the delight of internet pundits.

There is a bit of a back story. Reports emerged in late 2016 about a mysterious condition experienced by American and Canadian diplomats in Havana, Cuba.

Russian officials have been accused of being the victims of a sonic attack from a foreign power.

Other State Department-affiliated Americans began to experience the same symptoms in other countries where the US government conducts operations.

The Biden Administration and Congress have taken the reports very seriously, so much so that President Joe Biden signed a bill last fall to compensate Havana syndrome victims.

The findings from the CIA's interim study into Havana syndrome have cast significant doubt on the government's prior stance on the strange disorder.
