Remember the orange M&M? He's a Gen Z icon now.
According to CBS News, Mars is trying to make the M&M brand more inclusive by redesigning its characters. The green M&M has been replaced with sneakers and heeled boots, and the orange M&M is now embracing his anxiety. The orange M&M is grappling with his mental health, while the green lady M&M is getting new shoes.
The orange M&M has always been anxious, something I had to remind myself of, but now it willbrace his true self, worries and all. The orange M&M's acceptance of his anxious self is reflected in the rebranded character design. He tied his shoes.
Double-knotted laces give you control over your life.

According to Mars, the orange M&M is the most common character with Gen Z because we are anxious. I feel attacked as a member of Gen Z. Is it our fault that we're anxious to come of age amidst the climate crisis and a years-long global epidemic? The orange M&M is trying not to be eaten whole by the society. It's odd for a brand to single out a generation based on their mental health struggles, but we are living in a hellscape.
The new orange M&M design has a worried face and big tennis shoes. He's giving two Gen Z icons who wear oversized sneakers, if you really squint.

On his updated character page on the M&M website, the orange M&M is asked about its "favorite way to relax?" to which he responds, "I don't understand the question." If I've ever seen that behavior, it's a sign of the times. Gen Z is all about self-awareness and being in touch with our feelings. If orange wants to be a part of us, he has to accept his anxiety and then use social media.
He makes some good points. He responded to the prompt "I can't leave the house without..." with panic. Maybe orange M&M is the most popular one.
I hope that part of the orange M&M's journey to embracing its anxious personality involves it getting help. It's on your mental health.
