OAN panics as DirecTV drops network, asks viewers to find “dirt” on AT&T chairman

The right-wing network One America News was dropped by DirecTV.

OAN host Dan Ball urged viewers to dig up dirt on AT&T Board Chairman William Kennard, a Democrat who was Federal Communications Commission chairman during the Clinton administration and US Ambassador to the European Union under Obama. AT&T is the majority owner of DirecTV.

Ball told viewers that OAN was at war with AT&T, according to the Daily Beast article.

Ball aired a graphic that showed AT&T's customer support number and a picture of AT&T chairman William Kennard, who had "connections to the Obamas and Clintons for decades."

"If you have any dirt on Mr. Kennard, I'd love to see it and put it on this program," the Real America host exclaimed.

"You bring me concrete evidence that he cheated on his taxes, cheated on his wife, and used racial slurs against white people," Ball said. Whatever it may be. Find it for me. We will air it if you bring it.

He wrapped his plea by saying that he deserved to have his exposed over the decision to cut ties with One America News.

You can call AT&T's support line. Complain, raise hell, email, phone call daily, every hour, set the alarm on your phone, blow the phone lines up, demand they keep OAN, said Ball. He accused Kennard of doing nothing but a political maneuver.

AT&T's board chairman is Kennard.

Don't let executives shut down OAN!

OAN's website urged viewers to call AT&T and DirecTV to demand that OAN remain on their channel lineup.

Culture in news is not acceptable. Don't allow executives to shut down OAN! The now- deleted message on OAN's website said to join the movement and stand up for freedom of the press.

Media Matters for America said that on another OAN show, Trump's spokeswoman framed DirecTV's decision to drop OAN as an extension of a communist plot to steal the 2020 presidential election.

After its current contract ends in April, DirecTV will be dropping OAN. When the current agreement with OAN expires, DirecTV will not enter into a new contract. OAN and AWE are both owned by Herring Networks and stand for "A Wealth of Entertainment".

Media Matters, Free Press, and over a dozen other advocacy groups urged AT&T and DirecTV to stop airing OAN, saying the right-wing network is a major supporter of the Stop the Steal movement and is currently being sued by Dominion for spreading election fraud lies that claimed the 2020 The groups' letter said that OAN "stok[ed] violent calls for the attack on the US Capitol" and airs "wall-to-wall COVID-19 disinformation."

AT&T can't speak to promoting values of equality and justice while also funding a channel that promotes conspiracy theories and applauds insurrection... We call on AT&T to do everything in its power to remove OANN from its lucrative platform, and we call on DirecTV to stop carrying OANN.
