Tampa Bay Rays say split-season plan with Montreal rejected by MLB

GEORGE's is located in the state of St. George's Major League Baseball turned down the proposal by theTampa BayRays to split the season between Florida and Montreal.

The news was announced by the principal owner.

Today's news is deflating.

After attempts to build a new full-time ballpark locally failed, the idea of playing in both Montreal and the Tampa Bay area has been discussed over the past several years.

The expansion Expos had a big league team from 1969 to 2004. The Nationals were formed in 2005 after the Expos moved to Washington.

The lease for the team's stadium in St. Pete, Florida, expires after the 2027 season.

The franchise has been a success on the field, but not at the box office.

In spite of reaching the World Series in 2008 and 2020, the Rays are near the bottom in attendance. The average number of home games last season was 9,500, which was 28th in the majors and ahead of only Miami and Oakland.

The mayor of St. Pete thinks a new stadium is a possibility. Governmental officials are working on a plan for the site.

"We are working with our county partners and city council to put together the best plan possible, which will work in conjunction with my planned evolution of the Tropicana Field master development proposals," he said. I am confident that we can work with the Tampa Bay Rays to create a new home for Major League Baseball in St. Pete while also achieving historic equitable economic growth.

The team will explore options in the area.
