The Fulton County District Attorney wants to use a special grand jury to investigate attempts to influence or overturn the results of the 2020 election in Georgia.

In a letter that was first reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Chief Judge of Fulton County Superior Court Christopher Brasher was told that a special grand jury was needed because a lot of witnesses refused to testify without a subpoena.
The essential witness has indicated that he will not comply with the investigation if a subpoena is not issued.
In Georgia, special grand juries can subpoena witnesses and compel the production of documents, but they can't return indictments.

The Washington Post published a recording of the call between Trump and Raffensperger in February 2021. In the call, Trump threatened to overturn his loss in the state if he didn't help with voter fraud. I want to do this. During the call, Trump said he wanted to find 11,780 votes. Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp and a state investigator were called by Trump. The lawsuits were thrown out because they asked for the election results to be thrown out. Georgia election officials said there was no evidence of voter fraud in the two recounts requested by the Trump campaign. Trump lost by about 12,000 votes in the state.

Walter Jones, a spokesman for the Georgia Secretary of State's Office, said in a statement to multiple news organizations that there was an investigation into the call. Any further legal efforts will be left to the attorney general.
