An American Airlines flight turns back over the Atlantic because of a passenger mask dispute.

An American Airlines flight from Miami to London was turned around about an hour into its journey because of a passenger who refused to wear a mask.

A woman in her 40s was escorted off the plane by police officers after it returned to Miami International Airport. Ms. Gonzalez said that she was not arrested.

The plane carrying 129 passengers and 14 crew members was 500 miles into its flight when it changed course off the coast of North Carolina.

American Airlines said in a statement that the flight had been diverted because of a disruptive customer.

There have been a lot of midair mask disputes during the Pandemic.

A passenger was accused of punching an American Airlines flight attendant in the nose after a mask dispute. The violent encounter on the California-bound flight from New York was one of the worst displays of unruly behavior we have ever witnessed.

In May, a California woman on a Southwest Airlines flight repeatedly punched a flight attendant, bloodying her face and chipping three teeth, after she was asked to wear her face mask properly.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, thousands of other episodes involving unruly passengers have taken place in recent years. The agency said it had received more than 150 reports of unruly passengers since the beginning of the year. There were 5,981 reports of unruly passengers last year.
