According to Shams Charania of Stadium and The Athletic, Chicago Bulls star Lonzo Ball has a small knee tear.

Ball is now considering treatment options.

The decision is expected to be made within the next 48 hours on whether or not Ball will have surgery that will sideline him for four-to-six weeks.

The guard is doing well in his first season. He's averaged 13.0 points, 5.4 rebound and 5.1 assists through 35 games. He's on pace to set career highs in both three-point percentage and field goal percentage.

The Bulls were expected to improve on an 11th-place finish in 2020-21, but instead they are sitting first in the Eastern Conference at 28-15.

Ball's contributions on both ends of the floor have helped the Bulls.

Billy had to deal with the absence of the 24 year-old. He was out of the lineup since January 14 because of the sore left knee he sustained in December and entered the NBA's health and safety protocols.

Coby White has performed well in a backup role, too, and his usage figures to increase for the time being.

Ball's injury shouldn't affect the on-court dynamic the Bulls have established this year.

The impact will be focused on after the guard decides his treatment path, which should give a clearer timetable for his return.
