The inventor of PlayStation thinks the metaverse is pointless

The man who invented PS3 is not a fan of the metaverse.

Ken Kutaragi, a former Sony executive who is sometimes known as the "Father of PlayStation" said in an interview that he doesn't see much value in the metaverse.

Being in the real world is important, but the metaverse is about making quasi-real in the virtual world, and I can't see the point of doing it.

Would you rather be a polished person or a real person? He said that that's essentially no different from anonymous message board sites.

Future versions of the internet accessed through virtual reality and augmented reality are referred to as the metaverse.

The headsets associated with metaverse technology are a sticking point.

"Headset would make you isolated from the real world, and I don't agree with that," he said.

Meta, formerly Facebook, has been at the forefront of tech companies. Microsoft said this week that it would be focusing on building metaverse platforms with its acquisition of game publisher.

There are other members of the industry who are skeptical about the merits of the metaverse.

He said in an interview that the hype surrounding metaverse tech reminds him of communist propaganda he was exposed to as a child.
