Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy met twice with owner and general manager Jerry Jones after the team's wild-card loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

McCarthy met with Jones after the game and doesn't think his future is an issue.

McCarthy said that the focus was on the evaluation process.

When asked if McCarthy would return for a third season, executive vice president Stephen Jones said he was very confident.

McCarthy's regular-season record is 18-15 and he had a 12-5 mark in 2021, but the Cowboys were the only home team to lose in the first round of the playoffs.

McCarthy understands the speculation after 13 years in Green Bay.

He said it's accepted for people in this profession. It's part of the job. I understand. I understand why you are asking the question. It's part of the job. You have a job to do, and I have a job to do here today in answering your questions respectfully. I know what I put into this so I don't put a lot into it.

I am aware of what goes on here every day. I know how to win. I know how to win. I know how to win. I know how to win. I have a lot of confidence in that. I feel very good about what we've built here, and I think you just stay true to that. The personal is the hard part. I don't like the part where we all have kids. I hope people are respectful of that.

McCarthy, who signed a five-year contract with the Cowboys in 2020, acknowledged that the Cowboys will look a lot different in 2022. Dan and Kellen are interviewing for open head-coaching jobs.

McCarthy did not rule out the possibility of changes to the coaching staff. The Cowboys have 21 players who are set to become unrestricted free agents, and the team faces a difficult salary-cap situation.

McCarthy believes things will be better next season.

McCarthy said he trusts the personnel process. I think the collaboration with the personnel department was what we did this year. The biggest change I've ever been a part of was on the defense. There was a lot of hard work and a lot of credit that goes to a number of people. I have the same confidence that we will do that. It's going to be a challenge, but I know you can't keep everybody, that's the era that we're in.

We'll have another excellent draft class to go with the two that we have. I've coached the youngest team in the league for a number of years. I have faith in that draft. This will probably be the first year that we can have a normal offseason program, so I think with that, the combination of veteran and young players we have, I think we can take a step forward.
