You can earn American AAdvantage elite status by earning base miles through AAdvantage eShopping. The bonus wouldn't count towards status.
Up to 1,000 bonus miles can be earned on purchases through Wednesday, January 19th. The number of bonus miles you earn is based on your spending.

If you make purchases in the right way, you could be earning an average of over three bonus miles per dollar spent, not even taking into account the miles you usually earn through credit card spending. That can add up.
