Liverpool Women: The push for promotion back to the WSL

Last Sunday, they won their league game againstWatford by a score of 800-211-2519.

After being demoted to the Women's Championship in 2020, there was only one goal for the club - to go straight back up.

They did not go to plan last season, but Matt Beard, the coach who led the Reds to back-to-back Women's Super League titles, has helped them get back on track.

The Reds have not lost in the league since August and are seven points clear at the top of the table.

Beard said that they were getting rewards from the hard work. It's a group effort. We know that there will be bumps along the way but we need to keep going.

Beard said that the celebrations showed "relief" after the late goal from new signing Katie Stengel.

He says that togetherness is key to the push for promotion.

That's the most important thing. If you're happy and you're with each other, you'll have each other's backs. You can go a long way with that.

The top scorer in the league with 10 goals in 11 games, Kiernan said enjoying her football was the most important thing.

We forget because we want to get promoted, win the league and score in every game. We play the game because we enjoy it.

That's a big deal. My friends and I are enjoying football. Everybody is smiling when you go in every day.

There will be tough times.

The top of the Women's Championship table is occupied byLiverpool.

Beard and Kiernan worked together at West Ham United and Kiernan was one of several players brought to the city by Beard.

The Republic of Ireland forward spoke with Beard about his philosophy and knew that promotion was his goal.

We want to get into the WSL. She said that they don't speak much about it because they know they're going to get their goal.

If our training week goes to plan and we know exactly what we're doing at the weekend, we should hopefully win games.

We stick to our targets. We get closer to the end goal if we do that.

You want to be tested to get that promotion. On Sunday, we had a great game with Watford. We know that there will be difficult times ahead. We'll be ready.

Beard said that the WSL can't be focused on until they know they're there.

"We're a big football club and usually your targets are kept internal," he said. They want to knock us off our perch whenever we play them.

The players have to be prepared for that. We put the players under a lot of stress in training because we were bullied last year and I watched the Durham game. That didn't happen this time.

We practiced the situations so we could deal with them. That's the biggest change for me. We've worked on it in the classroom, not just on the training pitch.

We are all there for each other.

The key members of the coaching staff are Matt Beard and his assistant managers.

Dr Champ has been working with the players and staff to prepare them for the pressure of the promotion race.

Beard has built a culture that feels like a family, coming together to deal with personal tragedies like the death of assistant Paul McHugh's parents, or the injuries to goalkeeper Rylee Foster.

I want the players to be themselves. Beard wants them to come in and enjoy themselves.

The group is very close. A lot has been thrown at us. We are there for each other. We have had ups and downs in our lives.

We are all working together to make sure we stick to our goal. We want to achieve something this year, not just for ourselves, but for everyone.

Beard wants to repay the fans.

Everyone has been with us. Being there on a matchday is great. The away games are similar to home games. That's been very important.

It's an enjoyable atmosphere because we're with them. At the start of the season, it was tense and you could feel it. The fans are relaxed.

After the League Cup quarter-final with Spurs on Wednesday, the promotion push will continue.

We set ourselves a points target that we needed to get to in the first half of the season and we are in a good position. Beard said it was the next opponent.
