Paramount+ has announced a number of new premiere dates and renewals for every current Star Trek series on the platform. Next month will see the return of Star Trek: Discovery season four, which will precede the release of a new episode of Star Trek every Thursday from now until the middle of July. As a treat.
The returns of Prodigy and Discovery are the first things to happen. The 10th and final episode of the first season of the show will be aired on February 3. Discovery season four will return on February 10 with five remaining episodes.
The second season of Star Trek: Picard will premiere on March 3, meaning Discovery and Picard will air together for three weeks. The second season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is a sequel and a prequel, following the crew of the pre-Kirk U.S.S. Enterprise after the events of Discovery's second season.
It is a lot of Star Trek, but there may be more consecutive going along the way. Lower Decks will return for a third season in summer 2022, while the remaining 10 episodes of season one will be aired later in 2022, according to Paramount+.
The fifth season of Discovery will be a 10-episode run, down from the previous 13-episode runs, and it was included in the announcement. Lower Decks will be returning for a fourth season, and Strange New Worlds will have a second season. The second season of the show was already renewed, but no details about Picard's future were given, because the series doesn't need to yet.
Before Star Trek: Discovery began, executives at CBS imagined an incoming period where it would be airing all the time. It is safe to say that they are getting close to that, with a whopping five different shows running almost continuously throughout the year.
