Airlines Warn That New 5G Tech Could Mess Up Planes’ Ability to Fly Safely

According to The Guardian, cutting edge 5G technologies could force the industry to its knees, but it has nothing to do with bogus 5G conspiracy theories.

The telecom industry is eager to push out the C-Band 5G tech to airports, but it could interfere with instruments that tell the airplane how high it is flying in low-visibility conditions.

More than 1,100 flights and 100,000 passengers would be subject to cancellation, diversions or delays on a day like yesterday, according to a public letter sent to the White House by a number of US airline CEOs.

They warned that the nation's commerce would grind to a halt.

The White House and AT&T have reached an agreement to test the technology at a few airports.

It was a highly contentious issue that had more than just airline executives worried. The New York Times is reporting that the two carriers decided to delay the roll out of the service because of the concerns.

The roll out was pushed back from December to early this month.

American Airlines CEO David Seymour wrote a letter to staff that said the airline industry is facing major disruption as new wireless technology is activated. The two should be able to coexist, but they need to understand potential impacts.

The technology was already being used safely in parts of Europe, according to telecom industry players. The opponents pointed out that 5G networks were implemented differently there.

The New York Times reported that AT&T and Verizon will change their 5G plans.

Experts say to stop wearing anti-5G necklaces.
