5G service in the US could interfere with planes.

What is the concern?

The FAA is concerned that 5G telephone networks will interfere with radio altimeters on some aircraft. These are important for making landings in poor visibility. The FCC has given the go-ahead for the roll-out of these networks.

In the US, the radio spectrum is both congested and fiercelycontested. Nothing goes to waste and industries lobby hard to get their portion. The part of the spectrum set aside for vital aircraft operations is very close to the one assigned for 5G in the US and raises the chance of interference.

What is 5G?

It is the fifth generation of mobile phone technology. 5G is a cellular technology.
