The rise of the Omicron variant has led to the use of rapid antigen tests to make sure that we don't spread the virus to friends and family. It has been difficult to follow that suggestion because of the long lines at COVID testing stations and high prices for home kits.

The US federal government has created a website where you can order rapid test kits for free. The site was supposed to open on January 19th, but it started taking names and addresses a day early.

It is very easy to place your order. You don't need to provide any financial information.

You can go to COVIDTests.gov.
The button reads "order free at- home tests."
If you don't see the button for any reason, you can go to the USPS site, which is where the button would send you anyway.
If you want to receive notifications, fill in your email address and shipping address.
Click on the green button to check out.

The USPS form is very easy to use.

We haven't had any problems with the site so far, it's popular. As of 2pm on Tuesday, January 18th, over 700,000 people had already visited the website. There will be a call line for people who can't access the website, but it hasn't been announced yet.

The kits are supposed to arrive in late January. We are still on our own until then.
