Amex Platinum Card Getting Artist Redesign

The Amex Platinum will soon be more colorful. The wait for a new card will be over later this week, after we learned about it several weeks ago.

The Amex Platinum card designs have been revealed.

Amex Platinum cardmembers will be able to choose from two new card designs on January 20, 2022, so that those who are interested can request one. For both new and existing cardmembers, this will be available.

The cards have been turned into art by artists Julie Mehretu and Kehinde Wiley. I usually try to cover the basics in my own words, but reading the press release made me realize that I just can't do that without sounding awkward.

Julie Mehretu is an Amex Platinum x Julie.

The card design by Julie Mehretu is described here.

The Platinum x Julie Mehretu is an example of the abstract modernity that she is known for.
>
Julie Mehretu said that making art comes from expanding the imagination and possibility. I am very happy that a part of my work can be found on the smallest canvases in Platinum Card Members' wallet.
>
Mehretu is known for her works that link architecture, identity and history while also furthering concepts that are fundamental to art itself.

Amex Platinum is a gift from Kehinde Wiley.

Here is how the card design is described.

The Platinum Card design was designed by a visionary portrait painter best known for naturalistic portraits, and it captures the essence of his profound energy and worldview.
>
The project was an exciting experience for me to translate my artistic approach into one of the reimagined designs for the Platinum Card. Platinum Card Members enjoy a bit of artistic inspiration every day.
>
The heroic, powerful, majestic and the sublime are some of the signs and visual rhetoric of the representation of diverse individuals by Wiley.

My take on the Amex Platinum card designs.

I am not sure if I agree with the Amex Platinum special art designs. On the other hand, it seems smart.

The designs are unique and will be a point of conversation.
The demographic that Amex is targeting with the Platinum Card will largely like this, and it could cause some people to put this card front of wallet.

This seems silly from a rational standpoint.

I will request one of these cards once it is possible, though it won't affect my choice to put spending on the card.

The bottom line.

The Amex Platinum will have two new card design options on January 20, 2022. This will be available to new and existing card members of the personal card in the United States. The designs are cute, but this is style over substance.

What do you think about the Amex Platinum card redesigns? Will you be requesting one of the two designs?
