The Los Angeles Lakers' win over the Utah Jazz on Monday night did not provide security for Frank Vogel.

The Athletic's Bill Oram and Sam Amick reported that the Lakers are evaluating him on a game-to-game basis and that he is at risk of being fired if progress doesn't continue.

The head coach of the Lakers is almost always the subject of rumors when the team falls short of expectations.

The fault for the franchise's current situation isn't solely with Vogel.

Anthony Davis has an injured left knee and hasn't played since a loss to Minnesota. A roster built around Davis and James will struggle when one of them is unavailable.

The trade for Russell Westbrook hasn't worked out, which might be the biggest reason for the Lakers' present state.

Through 44 games, he is averaging 18.6 points, 8.1 rebound and 7.9 assists. The usage rate has not been associated with an increase in efficiency. He's shooting 43.6 percent overall and 28.9 percent from beyond the line.

The Lakers quietly explored trade scenarios involving Westbrook, which is a sign of how poorly the partnership has done so far.

Rob Pelinka sacrificed a lot to acquire Westbrook and didn't re-sign Alex Caruso, but his head coach didn't deal him very well.

There is a lot of blame to go around.Rob Pelinka gave Frank Vogel a bunch of bad defensive players, so Frank is giving him a bad defense.

He is making completely inexplicable lineup decisions.

The Lakers are being watched. They've exhausted their best trade assets, have little financial flexibility to sign new players, and mortgaged a lot of their draft capital to get Davis.

Pelinka can change the direction of the Lakers' season by making a coaching change. Los Angeles' ceiling has been painfully clear over the last few months, but a new voice in the locker room may be enough to get something more out of the squad.
