The reflective optical system has advantages of small number of optical elements and simple optical structure. The optical system image quality is degraded by the increase of focal length and the amount of misalignment caused by just a small amount.

Prof. Meng Qingyu and his student from the Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics (CIOMP) proposed a method for reflective optical system design. The method considers the sensitivity of each mirror of the system and the tilt error sensitivity of the system.

The mathematical analysis models of single-mirror system and two-mirror system were created using the method of geometric optics. They found that the system with a large incidence angle has greater variety of OPD and higher sensitivity when the tilt error is applied.

The researchers proposed an evaluation function S of tilt error sensitivity of optical system and a desensitization design method for reflective optical system. They compared the tilt error sensitivity of the two systems before and after the desensitization design by using the proposed method. The method was shown to be effective.

The Design method for a reflective optical system with low tilt error sensitivity was presented. There is a book titled "10364/OE.447556."

The journal has information about the Optics Express.

A novel design method for reflective optical system with low tilt-error sensitivity was proposed in January.
