UK planes took a long detour around Germany to deliver weapons to Ukraine in case Russia invades

Britain said on Monday that it had begun supplying anti-tank weapons to the Ukrainians to help it defend itself from a potential invasion by Russia. Western countries fear that Russia is preparing a pretext for a new assault on Ukraine. Moscow denies any plans for an attack, but says it could take military action if the West doesn't agree to a list of demands.

Germany's foreign minister said on Monday that she hoped tensions with Russia could be solved by diplomacy, but warned that Moscow would suffer if it attacked its neighbour. After talks between Russia and Western states on the deployment of tens of thousands of troops along the Ukrainian border ended with no breakthrough last week, the Minister Annalena Baerbock is on a tour that will take her to Moscow. The United States said last week that it was concerned about Russia preparing a pretext to invade Ukraine.
