A huge asteroid flies will fly safely by Earth today. Here's how to watch it live.

You can watch as the asteroid flies past our planet.

The Virtual Telescope Project is based in Rome and will host a live stream starting at 3 p.m. When asteroid 7482 (1994 PC1) is close to our planet, it will be at least 200 years away.

"The Virtual Telescope Project will show it live online, just at the fly-by time, when it will peak in brightness," stated the livestream page.

The small world's closest approach will be at 4:51 pm. The Center for Near-Earth Object Studies (CNEOS) is managed by NASA at the agency's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The asteroid will get no closer than 5 lunar distances during its closest approach, according to NASA. The average distance from Earth to the moon is about 238,855 miles.

Any asteroids or comets that come within 1.3 astronomical units of the Earth are considered to be near Earth objects, according to NASA.

The agency is working to fulfill a mandate from Congress to seek and report at least 90 percent of all large asteroids, and plans to launch a dedicated mission into space by 2026. NASA had hoped to complete the work by 2020, but the mission should meet this goal by 203.

NASA has telescopes in space and on the ground that are constantly looking for Near-Earth objects, but also manages the efforts of potentially hazardous ones through the agency's Planetary Defense Coordination Office.
NASA continues to conduct research in case of threats. The Double Asteroid Redirection Test will attempt to alter the path of an asteroid's moonlet in the fall of 2022.
