According to the South China Morning Post, Apple's largest manufacturing partner is again offering bumper signing bonuses to new and former workers in an effort to boost recruitment at its Zhengzhou campus, one of its main iPhone factories in China.
According to the report, returning workers will be given a signing bonus of 9,500 yuan and a monthly income of 6,866 yuan at the company's production park, which employs more than a quarter of a million workers and produces an estimated 80% of the world's electronics.
The Taiwan company has promised a reward of 8,500 yuan for new recruits hired through its internal referral program, as well as a reward for the corresponding referrer. New joiners who applied on their own will be offered a bonus.
The bonus package was offered in July when the factory was ramping up production. On that occasion, the amount was increased by the previous month's record-high signing bonus.
The increase in incentives indicates a need for experienced workers ahead of the lunar new year holiday, when migrant workers across China typically return home to be with their families.
There have been a lot of Omicron and Delta coronaviruses cases in the past few weeks, which have led to restrictions on people entering and leaving the region. In Zhengzhou, the capital of the province of Henan, the production lines are located in low-risk zones for infections, but the company is taking no chances and continues to conduct multiple rounds of testing on its workers.
The demand for the iPhone 13 has remained steady going into the future, with Apple selling 40 million units over the holiday season last year, according to analysts.
