Dan Biggar: Wales name Lions fly-half as captain for 2022 Six Nations

Dan Biggar made his Wales debut against Canada.

Dan Biggar will be the captain of Wales for the Six Nations.

Biggar will lead his country for the first time, with Adam Beard his vice-captain.

Centre Jonathan Davies and flanker Ellis Jenkins are also in the squad.

The uncapped players are Dewi Lake, James Ratti, and Jac Morgan.

Wales have a lengthy injury list, which includes Lions Ken Owens, George North and Leigh Halfpenny.

Wales will play Ireland in Dublin on February 5 in the Six Nations.

"With the experience missing we wanted someone who had experienced the competition on a number of occasions and knows the rigours of it," said Wales head coach Wayne Pivac when he picked Biggar as captain.

He's toured with the British and Irish Lions and has 95 Wales caps.

"Dan has the respect of the other players and management so we think he'll do a great job."

Wales are without several players because of injury, including hooker Dee, flanker Josh Macleod and centre Johnny Williams.

Owen Watkin gets a recall but Owen Lane, Thomas Young, Ben Thomas and WillGriff John are not.

"We are excited to get back together as a team," said Pivac.

The Six Nations is a very special competition and we want to win it. It's about preparing well each week and working hard in training.

The Six Nations last year offered fans an exciting brand of rugby with lots of tries and we are looking forward to the challenge.

Every match will be important for the development of the road to France, with the World Cup on the horizon next year.
