Sotheby's unveils 555.55-carat black diamond thought to come from outer space

An employee of the gallery in the United Arab Emirates presented a black diamond called "The Enigma" that will be auctioned on Monday.

Kamran Jebreili.

The diamond is from out of this world and was unveiled by the auction house.

The black diamond is believed to have come from outer space. The gem was shown off to the journalists in Los Angeles and the other two cities as part of a tour before it is auctioned off in February.

The diamond is expected to be sold for at least 5 million British pounds. The auction house will accept cryptocurrencies as a payment.

The number five is important to the diamond, which has 55 facets, according to a jewelry specialist.

The shape of the diamond is based on the Middle-Eastern palm symbol of the Khamsa, which stands for strength and protection. The Arabic word for five is Khamsa.

There's a nice theme of the number five running throughout the diamond.

Stevens said the black diamond is from outer space.

She said that they believe the carbonado diamonds were formed through meteorites colliding with the Earth or from the meteorites themselves.

Black diamonds, also known as carbonado, are rare and only found in Brazil and Central Africa. The carbon isotope and hydrogen content of the theory is related to the origin of the universe.
