A judge ordered a Minnesota COVID-19 patient be flown to Texas so he'd stay on a ventilator after hospital planned to disconnect him

The man was flown from Minnesota to Texas after a judge ordered the hospital to keep him on life support.

Scott Quiner has been on a ventilator at the hospital in Coon Rapids, Minnesota since November 6, 2021, according to the local paper. Quiner is unvaccinated and has not shown signs of improvement since he was admitted, according to the publication.

Quiner was on the ventilator that was keeping him alive on Thursday. Scott Quiner's wife, Anne Quiner, petitioned Anoka County Court for an emergency order to prevent her husband from being disconnected from the ventilator, as well as to move him to a new care facility.

Marjorie Holsten, Anne Quiner's attorney, told the Star Tribune that the patient was in a critical condition and that his lungs were failing.

The judge set a hearing date for February 11 after ruling in favor of the wife. The Quiner's medical expenses have been covered by over $70,000 raised on two websites.

The Omicron coronaviruses variant has caused a surge in cases in Minnesota. According to the Star Tribune, hospitalizations that don't include the intensive care unit have increased 34% so far this month. The peak was seen in December of 2020.

Minnesota Department of Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm recently said that the omicron surge has reached Minnesota.
