One Year Later: How an app called Clubhouse blessed my 2021

The world was still in the grips of the COVID-19 Pandemic and the first shipments of the vaccine were rolling out to healthcare workers and the elderly.

When a friend of mine said he had two invites, I invited him because I was always up for a new way to connect with people.

I didn't realize how meaningful that app would become.

What is the name of the place?

The app is called a Social Audio app, but others call it a Drop-in Audio app.

The stage and audience in each room are the same.
It sounds like a variety of conference calls you can join, so you are not far off.
Many people didn't have anything better to do so the app saw tremendous growth.

If you had interesting comments on the discussion at hand, your ideas would be just as valued as those with more notoriety.

The lounge is called the Traveler's chill lounge.

I joined in because a lot of the people I enjoyed chatting with were in that room.

When we got to know each other better, the conversation would drift from travel to other topics.

Traveling with friends.

It all changed in May when the founder of the Traveler's Chill Lounge decided to invite her friends to her home in Florida for a housewarming party.

It felt like we picked up where we left off the day before, and it was wonderful.

It is default.

It was great to see so many people heading out into the world together after the first meeting.

A friend of mine who is a huge fan of a Persian restaurant in LA called Raffi's Place found a cheap flight to LA from the DC area and before we knew it there were 20 people in the room.

Chicago, New York, Florida, and even my trip to Italy all had meetings.

A group of 9 of us flew out to see him around the US Thanksgiving holiday after he moved to Lithuania to pursue his master's degree.

There are many trips coming up in our little group, including a bucket list trip in May where a small group of us will go to one of the most incredible landscapes in the world.

What did the club teach me?

If you look at your nose after you read that previous statement, you will see that it is in your field of vision, but your brain ignores it until you look at it again.

I am thankful for the app, and I can't wait to see what 2022.
