Italy’s ITA Volare Offering Elite Status Match

If you have a status match approved, you will receive a virtual membership card from ITA Airways, if you haven't received it yet. You can take advantage of this status in order to get SkyTeam perks. The original post can be found below.

Italy's new national airline, Italia Trasporto Aereo (ITA Airways), began operations on October 15, 2021. The airline is currently offering a status match. I wanted to share the basics of this opportunity, as well as my experience requesting a status match, because there is still time to take advantage of this.

The status match of the Volare.

The Volare frequent flyer program is running a status match campaign. The airline is offering status matches from many loyalty programs.

How does the match work? If you are not a member of the program, you should register. You can send an email to statusmatch@itaspa.com once you have done that.

The email subject is the program of origin.
The name and program of origin are listed in the body text.
Attach a legible copy of your current frequent flyer card and a legible copy of your ID card.

Your status will be valid for 12 months if your status match is approved.

You need to have some status in order to match the 25 airline frequent flyer programs that ITA Volare is matching.

Should you request a status match?

Is it worth it to match status to ITA Volare? The airline only started operations several weeks ago, and there are still a lot of unknowns. You will have access to some elite perks when you join the SkyTeam alliance. When flying with other airlines, there could be benefits like a free checked bag or priority boarding.

All the way up to the top tier, ITA Airways is matching elite status. What are the benefits of being in the program? The details are somewhat vague, but we know what we know.

Priority wait times, free ancillary services, dedicated customer service, and business class check-in are offered by the ITA Volare Plus tier.
The middle elite tier of the airline is called the ITA Volare Premium.
Free checked golf equipment, lounge access, food and drinks, invitations to exclusive events, and a dedicated reception are included in the top tier of the Volare Executive.

It is worth taking a few minutes to match status with ITA Volare. This airline is a new one, and it is owned by SkyTeam, so opportunities like this will not always be available.

My experience with the Volare status match.

I wanted to share my experience, so I requested an ITA Volare status match. I had to register for the program first.

After entering some basic information, I was signed up, and just had to click a link in an email to complete the registration.

The link to the status match page was contained in the next confirmation email.

When you register for the ITA Volare program, you aren't issued a frequent flyer number. That is not an issue, as it is not needed to request a status match. I contacted statusmatch@itaspa.com with the very basic information.

The email subject is the program of origin.
The name and program of origin are listed in the body text.
Attach a legible copy of your current frequent flyer card and a legible copy of your ID card.

I messed up because I sent a picture of my American AAdvantage Executive Platinum account. I assumed that the Executive Platinum card wouldn't work because it was expired. I remembered that I could use the American Airlines app to get a digital elite card, so I sent a picture of that. I was matched all the way to the Executive tier a day later.

The bottom line.

Italy's new national airline is offering a status match campaign for elite members of other frequent flyer programs. If you are interested, you will want to apply soon. The process of requesting a status match was easy to understand. It's not clear whether or not this comes in handy at some point.
