Nolan Smith, Georgia's gifted pass-rusher, will return for his senior season, despite the fact that Georgia's top-ranked defense won't look the same next season.

Smith had 55 tackles, 3.5 sacks and an intercept in his senior season.

Smith's sack of Young was the final play of Georgia's win over Alabama in the College Football Playoff National Championship.

The Georgia defense, which ranked first in points per game (10.2), has lost several key players to the NFL, including defensive lineman Travon Walker and safety Lewis Cine.

Brini, who started 11 games for Georgia this season, entered the transfer portal on Monday as a graduate. Brini said last week that he would complete his final season of eligibility elsewhere.

Brini had eight pass breakups. A senior from Miami Gardens, Florida, appeared in seven games as a reserve last season. He got his degree in the fall. Brini was a three-star recruit.

Dan Lanning, the Georgia defense's head coach, left to become the head coach at Oregon.

The season opener for Georgia is against Oregon.

Tykee Smith and Christopher Smith are two defensive backs who plan to return to Athens next season.
